Red-Gal[6-Chloro-3-indolyl-ß-D-galactopyranoside]
An alternative chromogenic substrate for ß-D-galactosidase. Red-GAL is used in conjuction with IPTG for detection of ß-galactosidase activity in bacterial colonies in a colorimetric assay to detect recombinants from non-recombinants. Soluble in methanol. Store at 0-5°C.
