Drosophila and Small Insect Chambers

Drosophila chambers offer a comfortable and controlled environment for raising, breeding or experimenting with fruit flies, mosquitos, sand flies and other insects. There are two types of refrigeration systems to choose from, both with digital control and display, and temperature fail-safes to protect the chamber:

  • standard R134A vapor cycle with Electrofin coated coil, 2-50°C temperature range
  • thermoelectric (Peltier) cooling, 15-50°C temperature range
These chambers can also reach 60°C for a 3-hour mite cycle. Casters and epoxy-coated wire shelves are standard features on all models.

Because different insect species, or research with them, demand differing levels of temperature/humidity/lighting, three levels of parameter control are offered on most size chambers:
  • Level 1 - Temperature control, glass door for room light penetration, interior door light with on/off switch and an RH Meter.
  • Level 2 - Temperature and lighting control, solid door with vertical clock-controlled lights* (one on each side of the door opening) and an RH meter. A pan of water can be placed on the stainless steel bottom pan of the chamber for moisture. *Lights in the DROS27SD are horizontally mounted, one per shelf
  • Level 3 – Temperature, lighting and additive humidity control, aluminum interior, solid door with vertical clock-controlled lights (one on each side of the door opening), an RH meter and tap-water fed ultrasonic humidity generator controlled by a humidistat. Additive humidity control in the 60-85% range.
